Day one at Sayers Croft

Our first day was hot.  Very hot.  But also good fun.

We arrived a bit after ten, in time to make our beds and unpack.   After a quick fire drill, it was time for a tasty lunch, then on with our first activities – shelter building and the woodland compass trail.  From this, we learnt that most of year 4 are able to build woodland shelters capable of attacks by bears (or at the very least, Miss Perry dressed as a bear), but they may be in a little more difficulty in a rainstorm.   The woodland compass trail was a really challenge, and I was really impressed with how quickly children got the hang of navigating the woods using a compass.   After dinner, we had time for an early evening walk to look for wildlife (no bats spotted as yet, but there’s still time), and after a tiring day the children have settled down for a (mostly) quiet night’s sleep.

Tomorrow: we climb Pitch Hill.
